OnePlus 5 in 2019.

The smartphone industry has experienced rapid growth in the past couple of years. With the release of newer smartphones like the Realme X and the Redmi Note 7 Pro, we cannot deny the fact that the difference between the older flagship killers and the more modern mid-range smartphones is slim. One such phone worth comparing to the current mid-range phones is the OnePlus 5.

The OnePlus 5 was launched in Q2 of 2017 and was priced at $479 for the base 6/64GB storage variant and $529 for the 8/128GB option. The main improvement was in the design and the dual cameras. The curved design of the OnePlus 5 was a massive improvement over its predecessor, OnePlus 3, which had slight sharp curves to it. The in-hand feel is excellent, and the weight is evenly distributed.

The back of the phone is made of aluminum and is really well built. The antenna lines run through top and bottom, which are only visible when looked closely. The power button is on the right with the volume rockers. There is an alert slider on the left with the speaker grille, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port.

On the performance front, the OnePlus 5 has a Snapdragon 835, which is still an excellent chipset. The performance was top-notch. There was hardly any lag or frame drops while playing online battle royale games like PUBG and Fortnite. Scrolling through apps and performing day-to-day tasks was a breeze.

The display has an FHD+ resolution with what OnePlus calls the OPTIC AMOLED display. The colors are punchy and accurate. The sunlight legibility was excellent, and so were the viewing angles.
The audio output via the headphone jack and speaker is good and loud.

The cameras are 16+20 megapixel shooters with the 16MP standard and 20MP telephoto lens, which is capable of 2X zoom. It has a 20MP front camera, which also clicks good images. The photos come out decent with excellent dynamic range and sharpness. It struggles a little bit at night, but thanks to OnePlus's in-house developed Nightscape mode, which deals with low lighting pretty well. I'd suggest installing a G-Cam mod(I prefer Arnova's Gcam mods as they are quite stable) from XDA for clicking better pictures. The phone does a great job on the software front too.

The battery is 3300mAh, which is quite less for some of the audience out there, and I agree with you.
The battery has degraded quite a bit over two years. It still gave me around 4-5 hours of screen-on time, which may vary as per the usage.
I got this phone for around 11000 INR, which is equal to $169 from OLX, which I think was a great deal.
Summing up, 
Why should you consider this rather than buying a mid-range phone in 2019?

1.  The first reason on my list would be the AMOLED display, which is quite hard to find on most of the mid-range smartphones today.
2. USB Type-C with Dash charging makes this phone more special.
3. Oxygen OS is hands down the best custom UI ever. It gives you a stock' ish feel but at the same time retaining some cool features that other custom skins possess.
4. There is an ocean of custom ROMs for this device. One of the main reasons why I bought this device with AMOLED panel being the first one.
